La finalé.. Elphicks

This weekend bids a fond farewell to Elphicks of Columbia Road, purveyor of fine prints, paintings, books & general arty paraphenalia that we all love.  Sharon has dedicated the past few years so wholeheartedly to her beautiful shop and treated us artists very well.  Thank you, : ) !  Hopefully now we will see more of her own artworks, which can be checked out here.. I can highly recommend her etchings by the way.

Sooo.. if you are in East London this weekend pop by, 160 Columbia Road, there are plenty of extra bargains up for grabs.  Saturday 12 -5pm & Sunday 9 - 4pm.

'FT Weekend Magazine'

Art Director Paul Tansley commissioned my first editorial illustration in quite a while for this weekends FT Magazine.  Already a fan of its artistic content and generous page size, I was pretty chuffed when checking in for the big reveal on Saturday.. Thanks Paul, : ) !

'A BIGger Mick'

 

        Test ideas for 'Mick', printed on Somerset hot pressed Paper, 410 gsm  / 1524mm x 1025mm

Spending my first day back to work in the fine company of Jealous Print Studio could remain to be my most favourite creative day of twenty fourteen, even by the end of the year.  Appointed Danny Augustine, (currently in his final year at the Royal College of Art) as my personal printer (wow!) we set about making an Edition of 'Mick', in pretty off the scale proportions.  Definitely a first for me. United in our unorthodox approach to screen printing, day one's efforts resulted in a stack of brightly coloured, multi compositional versions of the iconic Mr Jagger. Tomorrow we continue.  Once the edition is set the resulting prints will be exhibited at this years 'London Art Fair', Islington.

'Wrapping up.. '

For a person who isn't overly festive I always enjoy the downward slope of the end of a year and the revelry that then ensues.  My enthusiasm lies as much within its numerical connotations as the celebratory ones.. the first day of the first month of a fresh year always feels strangely cathartic. (Naturally these numbers need to be digested with a few too many glasses of something.. )

Fellow artist Sophie Smallhorn surpassed herself once again with her Christmas card and a recently commissioned mobile piece for Fourth Floor salon. The card is a jarring pink & red composition which I couldn't wait to pop up, smack bang above the citrusy yellow cube print of a few years previous.  Enjoy her newly updated website here.

Above is a mountain refuge constructed from recycled materials, designed by Chilean architect Smiljan Radic. I'm not sure if its the daffodil yellow frame work encapsulating it's huge glass walls or the boxy almost formal windows along one side that delight me more.  Or just all that gorgeous yellow..  to inhabit a construction like this will be on my resolution list for many years to come for sure.

'Show Down'

It was a busy final day at Stourspace yesterday which left quite an impressive visitors list, with folk   travelling from as far Oxford.. !  James & I dismantled our wares this morning & bid our farewells with the agreement that 'Press&Pull 3' would happen sooner rather than in 2018, marking the 5 years that have passed since our original 'Press&Pull' Show.. #youheardithearfirst
